  • “I saw the Dr. a few minutes earlier than my scheduled appointment time. The procedure was completed promptly and with very little discomfort. I don't know what they could have done that would have made the visit less stressful. ”

  • “Have had 2 hips and 2 shoulders replaced at BHO. Dr. Papendick did both shoulders, the last in Feb of 2016.  I am already doing all activities as before the surgery. This includes mountain biking, hunting, fishing, and golfing (no it did not improve my score). The four surgeries fit into the, "no big deal" category. I was treated very well by all the folks at BHO and the therapist at their facility.”

  • “Dr. Lew gave me a new knee, or at least a total knee replacement. I can not express enough how much I appreciate the work that he did for me. My leg has not felt this good in years! Lew was very up front with me on what to expect and what I would have to do, and he was right on the money. The staff have always taken care of me when necessary. Many thanks to everyone!”

  • “I went to Dr. Papendick with a problem in my right shoulder. He started my treatment by using minimally invasive treatments (cortisone shot, PT, etc.). As my shoulder worsened, he talked to me about all of the possible treatments he could do, including surgery. By March 2016, I had lost total us of my right arm and it was determined that I needed surgery. Dr. Papendick detailed to me what he would be doing, including fixing anything he finds that was detailed in the MRI.   The day after my surgery (which was March 22), I had regained total use of my arm back. I could move it all around and actually grab things again. Words can't describe how ecstatic I was! To be right-arm (my dominant arm) functional again brought back my normal life again!   Dr. Papendick and all of the folks who were involved in my surgery are true angels to me. Thanks to everyone!”

  • “I had had a torn meniscus several years ago. It was starting to bother me so I went in to see Dr. Papendick and once he looked at my X-ray he immediately said I need a new knee.   This was in October of 2014, I was terrified to have surgery and recovery during the winter months, due to snow and ice, so I held off until I good weather, andthen of course it was one visitor coming to town after another, so it seemed like it just was not going to happen. Finally, at the end of August we got it done.   Dr. Papendick and all the Staff at the Surgical Hospital were the greatest Physical Therapy staff were awesome, pushed me just hard enough to make me feel it, but not to the point of no return.   I LOVE all of the staff there at Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center.   Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.”

  • “I saw Dr. Papendick about a shoulder problem. I was so impressed how I was treated by Dr. Papendick & his nurse. I felt like a "person", not just a patient. He was so personable & took time to explain X-rays, the MRI & his recommendation for treatment. I did not have to sit & wait for an hour in the waiting room or treatment room either.”

  • “On Nov 4, 2015, Dr. Papendick did a total knee replacement on my right knee. Surgery went great, not much pain and after intense rehab, 52 days after my TKR I was pheasant hunting in N.E. South Dakota. The entire process from the pre-surgery consult with rehab, thru the surgery, and the rehab afterwards was explained exactly how it would progress. I am totally happy with the results.”

  • “Dr. Papendick has been wonderful for both of my knee scopes. He fixed my left knee in 2014, my knee was very bad and the pain was gone right away. The best part is I no longer have restless leg syndrome in that leg. This past fall of 2015  he corrected my right knee. I no longer have the pain in my right knee. I am so grateful for Dr. Papendick and what he did for me. We would even joke in the office or when I would see him at sporting events. I recommend Dr. Papendick for any help that you need. Thank you, Dr. Papendick!”

  • “This spring our daughter asked me to run the Deadwood Mickelson Trial half marathon with her. So we started our training program in preparation for the May race. As we increased our training miles I was dogged by an old knee injury. A couple visits to Dr. Papendick helped me through the training and completion of the half marathon. Our daughter was graduating nursing school in May and it was one of those memorable father-daughter things we wanted to do before she began the next chapter of her life. Dr. Papendick understood what the event meant to my daughter and I so he was patient with the endeavor. However, he did suggest that once the half marathon was done, that for the benefit of my knee I find a new method of exercise, which was sound advice. Thanks for providing excellent care.”

  • “I've been through a lot with Dr. Papendick and the BHOSC Physical Therapists. Two shoulder surgeries, four knee surgeries, thirty knee aspirations, and two total knee replacements. And I am still up and "tap dancing" through life! The folks at BHOSC have been totally fantastic and my experiences have been wonderful. I am feeling great while still doing most of the things I did before all of the medical procedures. I have been taken care of the way a patient expects-—with dignity and respect, the utmost professionalism, and lots of compassion.     My family, throughout the whole experience, has been treated like they are part of the BHOSC family. They were made to feel as they were being taken care of as much as I was. This helped ease the anxiety that goes along with having all of these procedures done to a family member. By knowing that my family was taken care of, my recovery time went smoothly and without any problems.   I can never say enough about my experiences with BHOSC and Dr. Papendick. He is one of those people that you come across in life that makes life so much better. I am forever indebted to him for what he has done for me.   BHOSC-—thanks for everything that you have done for me to make my life better.”
