Student-Athlete Back on Track With Dr. Daniel Liechti’s Help

In early 2022, Gavin, a local multisport student-athlete, suffered a severe avulsion fracture and muscle tears in his right hip during indoor track. Despite eight months of healing and rehabilitation, he continued to experience high levels of pain, which meant not returning to any athletics. In December 2022, Gavin went to see fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon Daniel Liechti, MD.

With Dr. Liechti's expertise, Gavin underwent a tailored rehabilitation program, gradually alleviating his pain and restoring his confidence.

Gavin's mother, Anni, attests to the impact of Dr. Liechti's knowledge and skills, stating, "The care he provided changed the course of Gavin's sports career, allowing him to compete at a high level once again."

In May 2023, Gavin's perseverance and Dr. Liechti's care culminated in an extraordinary triumph. He won the Class 2A 100m dash regional and state championships, setting records at both levels. Gavin was also a key member of the Class 2A 4x100m relay team and became a regional and state champion.

“Without Dr. Liechti, Gavin would not be able to compete at this level,” explains Anni. She is happy to recommend Dr. Liechti to other patients and parents and adds, “If you have any sports medicine needs, there's no one better than Dr. Liechti.”

Through the combined efforts of Gavin and his care team at Black Hills Orthopedic & Spine Center, Gavin overcame injury and pain to embrace his full athletic potential.
